The Demon in the Mirror

There into the glass I stared in horror

The glass where I had seen a good young man

But now, when my eyes saw in the mirror

I saw the one from which I had thought I ran

It was a hog on two legs, fat and grimy

What wasn’t refuse on his skin were warts

His body and mind were black and slimy

Of the dirt, I saw that I was the source

Around him swarmed more flies than I could count

The cloak of insects that consumed us both

I abhorred this wrong in such an amount

Each fly and their king I utterly loathed

I smashed the glass, and minded not the pain

I swore he would no longer be my bane
